Factorio

Land on an alien planet with nothing but a drill, and leave it with a factory that runs itself. Build the belts, defend them from what the pollution wakes up, and launch the rocket with the people who helped you build it.

One factory, however long it takes

The factory keeps running

Your server holds the whole factory between sessions, so nobody has to be the host and nobody has to be online for the others to play. Come back to belts that are still moving.

Ninety seconds to joinable

Pick your seed and your password, press deploy, and hand out the address. No config files to edit, no ports to forward, nothing for anyone else to install.

Park it, come back to the same factory

A Factorio save is small. Park the world, put another game in the slot, and pick the factory up exactly where you stopped, down to the belt you were in the middle of laying.

Which pass you need

Factorio starts on a Standard Pass, and the dearer passes are the same game on a bigger box as the factory grows into them.

THE PASS THIS GAME NEEDS

Standard Pass

£6.99per month

Your first factory, eight of you in it, and a map you have explored properly.

IF YOU WANT MORE

Standard Plus Pass

£9.99per month

Room for the factory to sprawl: more of the map charted, more trains, more on every belt.

IF YOU WANT MORE

Premium Pass

£16.99per month

A megabase, and the trains to feed it. The pass for a factory you are still growing a year in.

What you choose

What you get to decide, and what each one changes. We set up everything else.

CHOICE

WHAT IT DOES

Map seed

Leave it empty for a random map. Two servers made from the same seed have the same terrain, so put one in if you want the map a friend showed you.

Password

Set one and only the people you give it to can join. Clear it and anyone with the address can walk in.

Max players

Eight is what the factory is built around. Ask for more and the form shows you how far above eight it will go.

Autosaves kept

How many rolling copies of the map sit beside the current one. Each is a full copy, so more of them is more to fall back on and more space used.

Autosave every

Minutes between autosaves. Saving pauses the factory for a moment, so less often means fewer interruptions and more to lose.

How we set it up

Wube's own headless server

The real thing, downloaded from the builds Wube publishes rather than repackaged by anyone, and set up with every setting written out deliberately so your map never starts on a default nobody chose.

Base game, so everyone can join

Factorio ships its headless server with the Space Age expansion switched on, which means everyone joining has to own it. We take it out, so the friend who bought the base game last week can get in.

Your map is saved on a timer, and again before it parks

Autosaves run while you play, and we save once more before parking, so what comes back is where you actually stopped rather than where the last timer caught you.

Parking keeps the map, not the game

Your save and its autosaves are kept. Factorio itself is not, because we fetch it again when you come back, so you never pay to store a copy of it.

Updates land between sessions

Your server takes each new build while nobody is playing, so you get the newest one without an evening ever being cut short to install it.
